Passage Oriental

Facing Beyoğlu Tünel İstiklal Street on Rumelia side of Istanbul Strait, it was built in 1840. It connects Passage Oriental İstiklal Street to Asmalı Mescit Avenue. This passage became firstly with Lebon and then Markiz Pastries. Both of these pastries were the best of the time. There was no better than them in terms of both decoration and service.

Art Nuveau china boards within the saloon are unique. Today they are unfortunately out of conventional usage. In this passage, famous stores like Koehler Brothers, Mandus Press, Coiffeur Kristich, Tailor Mulieri, Thread Maker Kalagas etc. In the year 1866 Mandus Press was demolished and new masonry stores were built. A great proportion of the passage is destroyed. Today Martiz Passage is a remainder part of the old passage.
